Shadows have long been the primary focus of my obsession in street photography. The exaggerated forms in this series are the culmination of my pursuit of pure symbolism. Each shadow belongs to me; they are self-portraits created by positioning a high-powered strobe on the ground and using a wireless trigger to capture my own silhouette against urban walls. These artificially manufactured shadows disrupt ordinary visual experience, potentially evoking a sense of unease or anxiety—yet, I find this tension deeply intriguing.
Reflecting on the subconscious, this work is perhaps a response to the global shifts of recent years. In contrast to the vastness of the world, the individual body is minute and fragile. However, under the intervention of specific light, the power and will of a 'minor' individual can be infinitely magnified. The colossal, obsidian shadows in these photographs are a visceral, 'repressed and distorted' visualization of this psychological state
