The Iron Quest - @joaocoelho_photography
This series tells the story of a group of young people who work in a ship graveyard in Angola. They enter dark holds where they could get trapped and dive repeatedly into murky waters, feeling the bottom with their hands. After removing pieces weighing hundreds of kilos with only their hands and arm strength, they carry them to the beach while fighting against the waves and currents. Once they reach the beach, they must load the heavy pieces onto fragile bikes and transport them to another part of the bay for weighing. They risk their lives every day to earn a mere 120 dollars for a ton of iron.
