Under the Brim
Under the Brim is an intimate black-and-white portrait study exploring identity through concealment and controlled light. The recurring presence of the hat serves as both shelter and threshold—partially obscuring, partially revealing. Through subtle shifts in gesture, gaze, and shadow, the series moves between anonymity and exposure, strength and vulnerability. Shot in a restrained studio environment, the work focuses on texture, form, and psychological nuance rather than narrative progression. Each frame isolates a different facet of presence, inviting viewers to consider what is shown and what remains withheld. The series examines how light shapes not only the face, but the perception of self.
