Mention Spéciale
The emotion associated with an encounter with Tangier is striking, as is often the case with what is commonly referred to as ‘the spirit of the place’. This sensation, almost impossible to put into words, is not an ephemeral vision; it grips you and forces you to become one with the awareness that this ‘here’ is unlike any other.
Experiencing Tangier is more than just contemplating the landscape, visiting the city or understanding the territory. This emotion is a mix of aesthetics, spirituality, poetry and perhaps of romanticism. It is something of the immanence of what has been, is, and always will be Tangier, constantly abused and remodelled, but which magically manages to find itself again.
Far from the bright lights, the vibrant days and the signposted walks, the soul of Tangier seizes me when the light fades, the blue hour vanishes and the djinns* who populate it try to speak to me. The series catches these moments of emotion tinged with dreamlike imagery, where singular places and beings mingle to trace a path towards the intimate spirit of this city, which for me is an irremediable spell.
