The Homage to Gilbert Garcin is a collection of images that describe a journey from darkness, loneliness, and desperation arising from internal conflicts, towards the light of hope, resilience, and renewal; it is a journey of self-realization and self-discovery; a descent and ascent through a surreal and sometimes absurd but authentically human world.
It is also a tribute to the life and photomontage work of French photographer Gilbert Garcin: to his world, simultaneously simple and complex; to his playful and ingenious way of experiencing life by creating stories full of surprises, enigmas, and emotions; to his valuable example of embracing life's calling regardless of age (he did so at 63), and to his great feeling of tenderness for humanity.
Photography is not exclusively a passive act of visual appreciation. It is also the language of self-analysis, meditation, conflict resolution, reflection, and questioning; a philosophical expression that offers the possibility of changing perspective to try to understand human nature, both one's own and that of others, in all its complexity.
