These black and white works were born out of a still life series that began in 2020. These photographs depict several childhood memories and life events from the late 90's and early 2000's. I was an army fan at the time, and plastic military models were my favorite. In this series, several of the stories include horrifying rumor of The Cold War published in military magazines; WWII artifacts left behind by the invading Japanese army next to my childhood home; conversations I had with my father about determining the type of aircraft by the sound of the engine; memories of playing with my buddies on decommissioned military planes; and a couple of other tales from those days. To memorialize them, I built temporary sculptures based on model boards I used to assemble with, but didn't put together, along with some shaped foam materials, and photographed them with a large format 8x10 camera, and dismantled those sculptures after I got satisfied negatives. My work is to discuss the monumentality of the photography and the connection between history, memory and reproduction.
