The series is selected form a larger body of work about "Anus mundi", a metaphorical definition of Auschwitz used by the SS physician SS Heinz Thilo. I've not "visited", but traversed and experienced Auschwitz I and Birkenau (Auschwitz II) for two days of work in documentary style, focused to discover the many facets of the complex camp machine, the logistics of mass murder and the levels of the systematic dehumanization carried out in the Nazi concentration camps system. The history of Auschwitz is the history of people. Trough these images I tried to suggest to the viewers the presence of the people, with their feeling, state of mind, body suffering and death. One the pictures was shooted inside the gas chamber of the crematorium I, built in Auschwitz I. I was there very early in the morning, when the only presence is that of cleaning staff. Viewing the film "The zone of interest" by Jonathan Glazer, the same scene appeared to my eyes, suggesting again the importance of the memory and of the place they care to preserve its history.
This project was planned months before 7th October 2023 and realized just three weeks after.
