Photograph taken in Lampedusa (a small island in the Mediterranean, a destination for migrants from the sea, who have left the African coast). The reportage portrays men and women but also children who have faced a long journey, first by land, perhaps through the Sahara desert and then by sea, escaping death several times. Often these people are also victims of "human traffickers" who kidnap them until they pay an appropriate sum. They are not posed subjects or in a set, they are not artfully built photos but they are people who have just arrived on the ground, people who have been reborn and who pass me by allowing me a single shot. Sometimes they are sad, worried, exhausted but other times they smile and are hopeful because now they feel safe and secure.
