A series of photographs dedicated to the city of Sarajevo, which this year marks the thirtieth anniversary of the longest siege of a city in the history of modern warfare. From April 1992 to February 1996, for a full 1,425 days, the citizens of Sarajevo were surrounded by forces of the Yugoslav People's Army. With 13,952 human casualties, Sarajevo still maintains the memory of this dark period. Today, when some of the minds behind this act are still walking the world, the citizens of Sarajevo do not cultivate pathos and sadness, but turn to the future, to a better tomorrow that is sure to await them. And while some politicians close to Russian politics want to bring fear back into their lives, Sarajevans are not giving up today or 30 years ago. With these photographs, I pay homage to the resilience of the Bosnian people and hope to some of their companions on the other side of Europe who are currently experiencing a similar scenario on the soil of a supposedly united and civilized Europe. There is hope for a better future.
